Choosing a Research Theme

Basic Policy

Each student is expected to make an effort to find a research topic based on their own interests.

We may suggest topics, but we do not require students to work on topics prepared by the faculty. Students decide on their research topics by presenting topic proposals in seminars, receiving feedback, and consulting individually with faculty members.

Possible Research Topics

We can supervise research related to natural language processing, dialogue systems, and human-machine interaction, where “machine” includes computers, agents, and robots.

Students can also work on topics related to nonverbal information processing, such as deciding when a dialogue robot should speak or estimating a user’s internal state, including emotion and motivation, from speech and images.
